Corporate Reporter

The event will enable participants to understand Sun's offerings

CHENNAI: Sun Microsystems announced on Friday the Chennai edition of `Sun Tech Days' to be held from February 7 to 9 at the Chennai Trade Centre.

This annual event makes training and technology tools available to professional developers, programmers, web developers, content providers, service providers and system integrators to hone and advance their development skills for the internet, intranet and enterprise environments.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, K. P. Unnikrishnan, Marketing Director, Sun Microsystems India, said that out of six lakh software developers in India, more than 50 per cent use Java related software for development. This number has seen an unprecedented growth over the last 3-4 years in India.

Unprecedented growth

Being the hotbed of the world's software development activities, India was witnessing a major increase in the breadth and depth of projects being executed across the country, with the model shifting from price arbitrage to one where growth is driven by the provision of sustainable offerings and services.

According to Naveen Asrani, Manager, Developer Relations, Asia South, this year's event will enable participants to understand Sun's world class offerings such as Java SE applications, advanced web services interoperability and Java web services.

The conference will feature keynote addresses by Kiran Karnik, President, Nasscom, and Laura Merling, Executive Director, SD Forum, besides two technology stalwarts, Laurie, Tolson, Vice President, Java Platform, and Karen Tegan Padir, Vice President, Enterprise Java Platform, Sun Microsystems inc.
