BANGALORE: Adocate-General B.T. Parthasarathy has resigned from his post. Mr. Parthasarathy, who was appointed Adocate-General by the former Chief Minister N. Grant for Mysore

to boost tourism

MYSORE: The city of palaces will receie a grant-in-aid of Rs. 3.33 crores from the Centre under the Destination Deelopment programme to boost tourism.

In a press release, Mayor Bharathi said the project will be implemented by the State Goernment through the India Tourism Deelopment Corporation (ITDC) and Rs. 2.67 crores will be released for the first phase of the project.

The blueprint for the project was prepared by the Mysore City Corporation and entails conseration of its heritage status through beautification of monuments and places of religious significance.

Special train between Mysore, Aurangabad

HUBLI: South Western Railway will run a special train between Mysore and Aurangabad (three serices) to clear the rush, according to a press release.

The Aurangabad-Mysore Special Train (no. 761) will leae Aurangabad at 4 p.m. on February 6, 12 and 17 and reach Mysore on the subsequent days at 9 p.m.

The Mysore-Aurangabad Special Train (no. 762) will leae Mysore at 5 a.m. on February 8, 14 and 19 and reach Aurangabad on the subsequent days at 9.15 a.m. — Staff Correspondent

Commissioner of Income Tax promoted

`Rachana Shareera' seminar begins

Udupi: A two-day national-leel workshop and seminar on "Rachana Shareera" (anatomy) organised by SDM College of Ayureda in association with the regional branch of the All India Shareera Research Institute (AISRI); the Raji Gandhi Uniersity of Health Sciences, Bangalore; and the Principals Forum of Ayuredic Colleges of Karnataka, was inaugurated here on Friday.

In her inaugural speech, Narga Nair, Professor, Department of Anatomy, Kasturba Medical College, said that there is immense intellectual capital, which should be tapped. Irrespectie of the barriers between different systems of medicines, there should be more studies in the field of anatomy, she said.

Two arrested for kidnap attempt

RAICHUR: The Raichur police on Friday arrested two persons from Andhra Pradesh on charges of trying to kidnap a child from Mallidoddi illage in Lingsugur taluk. The names of the arrested were gien as enkatesh (25) of Prakasam district and Santyam (40) of Guntur district. They hae been remanded in judicial custody. Two more wanted in the case were reported to be absconding. The police said that last month the accused had kidnapped Bheemaraya (14) of Mallidoddi illage and took him to a nearby hillock. They assaulted him when he tried to escape and gagged him. But they ran away leaing the boy at the hillock when they saw a shepherd.

Youth ends life

Raichur: A 16-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison on his field at Nagarbenchi illage of Lingsugur taluk on Thursday. The name of the ictim was gien as Appanna. The Maski police hae registered a case. — Staff Correspondent

Toddy recoered

RAICHUR: The Raichur police arrested Ramakka, Narasamma and Hanumantha and recoered 45 litres of toddy while they were allegedly selling it at Iadapanur near here on Thursday. They hae been remanded in judicial custody. The Idapanur police hae registered a case.

Life term

MYSORE: A city court on Thursday sentenced a constable attached to the Karnataka State Resere Police (KSRP) to life imprisonment for murdering his wife for dowry.

Rai Kumar was accused of setting his wife, Lakshmi, ablaze in 2004. The court considered the eyewitness account by the couple's only son, Kiran, who was seen years when the crime was committed. The court sentenced Rai Kumar to two years of imprisonment on the charge of dowry harassment. — Staff Correspondent

PANAJI: The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said on Friday that it will corner the Pratapsinh Rane Goernment oer the issues of law and order, corruption and increase in fares and tariffs affecting the common people, in the winter session of the Legislatie Assembly.

Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told presspersons here on Friday that the party will lay siege to the State Assembly with a "morcha" on February 14 in protest against the all-round failure of the Goernment. He said this "morcha" will be the culmination of the agitation by the party which began on Thursday.

PANAJI: The Occupational Laboratory set up by the State has as on date computerised record of the health status of oer 20,000 workers in Goan industry.

"We hae been successful in implementing the Factories Act which has resulted in decrease of accident rate in Goa is-à-is all India leel," said Deputy Chief Minister Wilfred de Souza on Friday when he inaugurated the third National Conference on Occupational Safety Health and Enironment organised by the Green Triangle Society (GTS).
