A 3-D leap in scanning technology

Special Correspondent

Unprecedented image quality almost instantaneously

CHENNAI: By the time your heart takes five beats (4-6 seconds), there is a machine in Chennai that can generate three-dimensional images of the organ and detect if your coronary arteries are blocked.

Bharat Heart Scans has just acquired the 64 Slice Cardiac CT scanner.

Its managing director R. Emmanuel said on Friday that, "this system provides unprecedented image quality almost instantaneously, a significant impact in cardiovascular medicine and trauma," he said.

It will now be possible to diagnose a patient's illness faster, enabling commencement of treatment early. This non-invasive procedure scores over the conventional coronary angiogram, which requires hospitalisation, A. Krishnamurthi, director, Cardiac Imaging, Bharat Scans explained.

V. Raja, president and CEO, GE Healthcare Technologies, South Asia (the company that supplied the LightSpeed Volume CT), said physicians were excited about the advantages of the equipment.
