Upgradation of waitlisted passengers in select trains

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Automatic upgradation of passengers to next high class will be available in five select trains in Southern Railway from February 6.

The trains are 7053/7054 Chennai Central - Hyderabad Expresses, 2625/2626 Thiruvananthapuram - New Delhi Kerala Expresses, 2621/2622 Chennai Central - New Delhi Tamil Nadu Expresses, 2842/ 2841 Chennai Central - Howrah Corormandel Expresses, and 2627/2628 Bangalore City - New Delhi Karnataka Expresses.

The new scheme provides for automatic upgradation of waitlisted passengers to the next higher class against vacant accommodation.

It will done automatically by the passenger reservation system at the time of charting and the train conductors/ticket examiners will have no authority to upgrade any passenger under the scheme.

It will not be offered in trains with only sitting accommodation and will be applicable to passengers who have booked their full fare. Concessional ticket/free pass holders will not be upgraded, including senior citizens travelling on concession, according to a railway release.
