  • Rs. 78 lakhs spent on asphalting bus stand road
  • A shopping complex with 90 stalls to come up on the road
  • The 2-km mud road within Gol Gumbaz premises to be asphalted
  • Rs. 8-crore plan to beautify the city sent to the Government

BIJAPUR: As the "clear encroachment drive" is reaching a decisive stage, the administration has now focussed on development of roads, drains and pavements.

In the first phase, roadwork at a cost of Rs. 2 crores is being executed. Work on Managuli-Agasi Road is nearing completion and asphalting is expected to start in a day or two. About Rs. 30 lakhs has been spent on this project.

A sum of Rs. 78.8 lakhs is spent on Bus Stand Road between Ashtpila Bungalow and Basaveshwar Chowk alone though its length is just 900 metres. This road will be made two-lane. A shopping complex with 90 stalls will come up along the road on the stretch between Ashtpila Bungalow and Bus Stand. The stalls will be given to those who lost their shops during encroachment clearance drive on priority. The aspirants have to deposit Rs. 1 lakh each immediately. The task of building the complex has been entrusted to Nirmiti Kendra and work is expected to begin next week.

Apart from strengthening and asphalting main roads, the allied work such as building pavements and drains have been taken up. All the works are going at a brisk pace as the administration wants to ensure that proper roads are laid in the city by March when the 350th anniversary of Gol Gumbaz is scheduled to begin.

Cultural and entertainment events have been planned to highlight the aesthetic value of the monument known for its whispering gallery. The asphalting of 2-km mud road that exists within the sprawling compound of the monument is likely to begin shortly. Besides the ongoing work, according to Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mohsin, a comprehensive plan to beautify the city, especially surroundings of the monuments, has been prepared. The proposal for work worth Rs. 8 crores has been sent to the Department of Urban Development for financial assistance.

The proposal includes upgrading approach roads of all important monuments such as Ibrahim Rouza, Chand Bawdi, Taj Bawdi, Baara Kamaan, Upli Burj, and Mulk-e-Maidan.
