Women vie for winning post at formation day fete

    MUSICAL CHAIRS: Women participants going all out to win the game at Ongole on Friday

    ONGOLE: Hundreds of women swarmed police parade grounds to participate in various competitions held for them on the occasion of Prakasam district formation day celebrations here on Friday. The grounds buzzed with activity from 10 am.

    Competitions were held for women in rangavalli drawing (muggu), mehandi (gorintaku), cooking, fast eating, flower show, well baby show, kolatam, antyakshari, musical chairs, thokkudu billa, voppula kuppa etc. A seminar was conducted on women empowerment at 5 pm.

    Cultural treat

    Cultural programmes were organised in the Sitarama kalyanamandapam on police parade grounds from 6 pm. Orchestra, Kuchipudi dance recital, magic show, padya natakam etc were organised.

    Speaking to newspersons here on Friday, district Collector B. Udaya Lakshmi said the third day of the celebrations (Saturday) would be held as Youth Day. Competitions would be held separately for boys and girls from 10 am in police parade grounds in cricket, kabadi, kho kho, volley ball, shuttle, running race etc. Competitions would be held for children in singing, jokes, story telling, antyakshari, musical chairs etc from 2 pm to 6 pm.

    Sowrya would give a magic performance at 6 pm. Cultural programmes include Andale Ravali, I Love my India, Hyderjung (mono action), Burrakadha by Kolanukota team, Pittaladora, Muddu Momu - classical dance, folk dances.
