Kollam DCC president criticises Pinarayi

Staff Reporter

For demanding suspension of police officer

KOLLAM: District Congress Committee (DCC) president Sooranad Rajashekaran has said that Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan's demand for the suspension of Kollam Superintendent of Police Santosh Varma will only lead to eroding the morale of policemen with integrity. In a statement here on Friday, Mr. Rajashekaran said the demand was part of Mr. Vijayan's dream of bringing about a change of Government by unleashing a series of violence all over the State. Kollam seems to have been selected for the CPI(M) game plan and the February 1 incidents in front of the district Collectoare only go to prove that. Prior to that, on January 25, on the day of the employees' strike, CPI(M) cadres had brutally beaten up those who wanted to join duty, Mr. Rajashekaran said. The police were targeted for a verbal attack then. Under the guise of their Collectorate siege, CPI(M) activists had even attacked those who had come to collect their pension, he said.

He called upon CPI(M) leaders to stop attempts aimed at cowing down police officers through threats and unleashing violence in the State. Violence should not be seen as a shortcut to come to power, he added.
