Vishnuvardhan wins title

Hyderabad: The top-seeded J. Vishnuvardhan of Andhra Pradesh outplayed Arjun Goutham of Karnataka 6-4, 6-0 in the men's singles final of the Circars All India ranking men's tennis tournament at Kakinada, according to information received here.

In the doubles final, Mithun Murali and R.Narendran clinched honours getting the better of J.Vishnuvardhan and Saurav Sukul 7-5, 6-4.

APSRTC advances

APSRTC scored a 62-60 win against Jubilee Hills International Club to move into the men's pre-quarter-final of the Hyderabad district annual basketball league championship here.

The results:

Laxman at the helm

V.V.S. Laxman will lead Hyderabad in the K.S. Subbiah Pillay Trophy cricket tournament to be played here from Feb. 10 to 16.

10 teams confirm entry

Ten teams including Shaikpet PG, Malakpet PG, Musheerabad PG, YMCA Hyderabad, Sanjeevi Club, Amberpet PG, SR Nagar, Manjumia Ka Tabela, Audianagar PG and Victory PG have conformed their participation for the qualifying rounds of the MCH annual open volleyball tournament for men to be held at the Victory Playground from Feb. 6.

The teams have been divided into two groups and the winner of each group will qualify for the main draw which is to commence from Feb 13.

The teams which have direct entry into the main draw are AP Police, ITRC, APSRTC, AGORC, SBI, SAAP, NSTL, AP Postal dept, and Hyderabad Mayors Club.

Pradeep shines

A.G. Pradeep (105, 2x4, 2x6) helped South Central Railway Sports Association to defeat State Bank of Hyderabad by 115 runs in the semifinal of the one-day knock-out cricket tournament for A Division teams here on Friday.

The scores: SCRSA 288 for six (Rufus Rodrigues 38, R.A. Vishwanath 82, A.G. Pradeep 105, Solomon Raj 40, T. Pavan Kumar four for 49) bt SBH 173 (M. Srinivas 51).

AG AP triumphs

AG Andhra Pradesh defeated AG Karnataka 25-16, 25-19, 25-20 in the final of the IA and AD South Zone volleyball tournament here on Friday. Both the teams have qualified to take part in the IA and AD inter zonal tournament beginning here on Feb. 6.

Mr A. Srinivas Kumar, Principal Director of Commercial Audit, gave away the prizes.

Geethanjali PS wins

Geethanjali Public School defeated St. Josephs HS 22-14 in the boys' section of the under-14 basketball tournament being organised by the All India Industrial Exhibition Society at YMCA Secunderabad on Friday.

The scores:

Boys: Geethanjali PS 22 bt St. Josephs HS 14; St. Patricks HS 25 (Abhilash 12) bt YMG 19. Girls: St. Josephs HS 21 bt St. Anthonys HS 14.

Easy for Anna

Anna scored a comfortable, 3-0 win against Andhra in the All India & South Zone inter-university tennis championship in Tirupati on Friday, according to information received here.

Bridge championship

The Chittoor District Bridge Association will organise its 10th Open bridge championship on February 11 and 13 at Town Club (Tirupati), according to information received here.
