BJP bid to raise Mau incidents in U.P. Assembly

LUCKNOW: Bharatiya Janata Party members on Friday made an unsuccessful attempt in the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha to raise the matter of the inquiry report about communal riots that broke at Mau last year. BJP member Luxikant Bajpai, at the fag end of the proceedings of the House drew the attention of the Speaker on the leakage of the inquiry report in a section of the media but the Speaker asked him to raise the matter after following proper procedure.

State Revenue Board chairperson Neera Yadav had led the inquiry team set up by the government after the communal riots at Mau during Dussehra in which about a dozen people were killed.

Later, speaking to reporters at the party office, BJP spokesman Sarjeet Singh Dung alleged the report had given a clean chit to the controversial MLA from Mau Mukhtar Ansari and instead blamed the officials for the violence. The inquiry report had said Ansari was not present in the town at the time of violence, Dung alleged. - PTI
