Chennai: The excitement in the ARAE annual regatta at the Adyar River touched a new high as the crews battled to reach the finals, which will be held amidst a festive atmosphere at the club's premises. There were quite a few pulsating contests on the penultimate day and as many as 25 races were conducted to spot the finalists. The talking point at the end of the day was the splendid victory of the College of Military Engineering, Pune, (CME) (Yogesh Mehta and A.K.Gupta) over Karachi (Imran Khan and Asgar Ali) in the doubles sculls. That only two seconds separated the winner and the vanquished reflects the intensity of the contest. The Lake Club, Kolkata, won an interesting race against Madras BC. The Kolkata crew consisted of Shakeel Ahmed, Arul T. Paul, Shankar, Shiv Singh and Biswajit Das (cox). The local team comprised Rahul, Abilash, Rohit, Ravindra Shubash and Kiran (cox). The Madras team will now fight for the third place on Saturday. The College of Military Engineering, Pune (A.K. Gupta, Ginny Thomas, A.C. Srivatsan, Bhatia, and Ajit Kiran (cox) claimed another notable victory over the MBC crew which included Siddarth, Neville Bilimoria, Palaniappan, Veetharaj and Ritesh Gopinath (cox).
