Elected to Royal College of Physicians
The college is engaged in teaching, training and professional accreditation. It awards the membership (MRCP), which is among the most prestigious qualifications worldwide for a physician to hold and is acquired through a written examination. Members may also be elected Fellows based on the professional distinctions that they have achieved during their career. The college has a grouping of Fellows in Tamil Nadu. The Regional Adviser who is the key member of this group, will facilitate interaction between Fellows and members as well as between the college and physicians in Tamil Nadu. Bomb hoax at polytechnic
The polytechnic administration received information that a bomb was planted on the institute premises. Acting on a complaint, the police inspected the site. Later, the bomb threat turned out to be a hoax.
137th cradle baby received
Easwaran of Jayamangalam handed over his girl baby to Saraswathi, Project Officer (Nutrition), and said that he could not look after the newborn, as his wife Kamatchi died after delivering the girl child. Already, he has two sons. The Collector, Rajesh Lakhoni, received the baby from the project officer and handed it over to the social welfare officials. He said the baby would be left in day care centre.
Man killed
According to the police sources, the man was trying to cross the national highway at Thuckalay when a private bus knocked him down. The police have registered a case.
Injured
He was admitted to the Tuticorin Government Hospital. The police said a case was registered against M. Hari (34) for driving the motorcycle in rash and negligent manner.
Wires stolen
A case was registered based on a complaint filed by Sivaram Das, Assistant Engineer (distribution), TNEB, that 210 metres of aluminum wire worth Rs.3,772 was missing from the distribution line.
Chain snatched
According to the complainant, his seven sovereign chain was taken away while he was about to enter a match factory. The Kazhugamalai police are investigating.

Elected
A statement said the state executive committee of the union, which met in Chennai recently, elected Mr. Seetharaman for the post of general secretary. He was the president of Nanguneri circle between 1990 and 1995 and Tirunelveli district secretary between 1996 and 1999. He has been the district president of the union since 2000. Presently, Mr. Seetharaman is the Assistant Director of Tamil Nadu Industrial Co-operative Bank, Chennai.

Thavil vidwan killed
Sources said that Krishnan (45), of Veerarakkiam, was trying to cross the road when a car hit him at Mayanur on the Karur-Tiruchi highway. He died on way to the Hospital.
Commits suicide
Sources said Palanisamy of Mavadian Koil Street had become jobless after his shop near the Municipal office was removed for renovating a park by the local authorities. Palanisamy had petitioned the authorities for allotting space for him. He was rushed to the Government Hospital where he died.
Dies in road accident
Jayapal and his son Sukumar, studying in standard nine at the Government High School, Lalapet, were walking towards Pillapalayam when a State Transport Corporation bus plying between Kulithalai and Mathipatti crushed to death the boy in front of his own father. The bus driver, Dharmalingam, has been arrested and further inquiry was under way.
