CHENNAI : The `Winter Music Festival' of Nadopasana began on Thursday with a concert by Vijayalakshmi Subramanyam.

Lalgudi Vijaya Lakshmy on the Violin, A.S. Ranganathan on the Mridangam and K.V. Gopalakrishnan on the Kanjira provided the accompaniments.

Vocal and instrumental music concerts will go on till February 13.

Inaugurating the festival, P. Obul Reddy congratulated Nadopasana for the silent service it rendered to carnatic music.

Pointing out that quality was the hallmark of the Sabha's performances, he said he had always extended his support to the Sabha activities and would continue to do so.

Tracing the four decades of the history of Nadopasana, Music Academy president, N. Murali, said his father, G. Narasimhan had attended several programmes of the Sabha and even had a collection of concert recordings.
