YSR reviews power scenario

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD : A presentation will be made on the problems faced by the power sector in the State before Union Power Minister S. K. Shinde when he comes to the city on Saturday.

During the presentation, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will make a plea for Central clearance to the proposal to expand the 1,000-MW NTPC Simhadri thermal power station by another 500 MW. The station is a `dedicated plant' with all its generation set aside for exclusive use by Andhra Pradesh.

A review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister here on Friday was informed by officials that the proposal to further expand the capacity of Rayalaseema Thermal Power Station by 500 MW has secured the Central clearance. They said the plant's presently expanded capacity of 420 MW would be ready by November and the 39-MW capacity first unit of the Jurala hydel station by December.
