CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has released Rs.230 crores for development of rural and urban areas. These funds are to be utilised by March 31 apart from an additional sum of Rs. 100 crores that would also be released for developmental works, the Haryana Chief Secretary, Meenaxi Anand Chaudhery, said while reviewing development works in Karnal on Friday. While pointing out that there was no dearth of funds for development works, she directed the officers to use them judiciously so that benefits of the welfare programmes and schemes percolated to the grassroots level. They should also ensure that women got the maximum benefit of the schemes. She said that the present Government's significant achievement was that it was providing a responsive and fear-free administration. The officers had been given free hand and therefore they should play a more constructive role in implementing the welfare programmes. They should apprise the villagers about various schemes and programmes being implemented by the Government in the meetings of Gram Sabha. She also stressed the need for providing more opportunities of income generating activities to the self-help groups in villages to check the problem of unemployment. She suggested that the task of cooking mid-day meal in schools be entrusted to self-help groups. Also, adequate arrangements should be made for the sale of goods manufactured by self-help groups. She also directed the officers to ensure supply of adequate quantity of safe drinking water to everybody and drainage of sewage in villages. They should also associate Mahila Mandals, Youth Clubs and Anganwadis with the schemes being implemented by the Health Department. Karnal Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Gupta said that the land records were being computerised. Special campaigns had been launched to promote health, sanitation and education and these had proved successful. The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sanjiv Verma, was also present.
