Colombo: Tournament favourite India was shocked by England, which pulled off a thrilling 28-run win in a low-scoring game on the second day of the warm-up matches of the ICC under-19 cricket World Cup here on Thursday. India looked to have a firm grip on the match when it bowled out England for 186. Saurabh Bandekar was the most successful Indian bowler with three for 36. However, Mark Nelson, who had earlier contributed an aggressive 34, was also the star with the ball as India was skittled for 158. Nelson removed opener Gaurav Dhiman with the first ball of the innings and finished with three for 37. Only Rohit Sharma, who smashed 34 from just 22 balls, put up some resistance. In the other matches, Sri Lanka bounced back from the mauling it received at the hands of the West Indies on Wednesday to recorded a morale-boosting 78-run win over defending champion Pakistan. United States was given a tough introduction to under-19 cricket, as it was hammered by 10 wickets by a Bangladesh side which showed why it is regarded as one of the favourites for the tournament.
Levi shows his class
South Africa appeared set for defeat when it slipped to 58 for four, chasing New Zealand's 187, but a classy unbeaten 90 from Richard Levi, who added 128 for the fifth wicket with Super Sub Grant Makoena (34), took it home with 9.5 overs to spare. Uganda made amends for its big defeat against Zimbabwe with a win over Ireland. UNI
