NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notices to the Union of India, the Delhi Government, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on a public interest litigation seeking directions to the respondents to implement earlier orders by the High Court to check the monkey menace in the city. A Division Bench comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma directed the respondents to file replies to the petition by New Friends Colony Residents' Welfare Association, Ashok Park Road, by April 29. The petition filed through advocate Meira Bhatia said despite several judicial directions issued to the respondents to take steps to rid the city of the menace by this Court over the years, the respondents had failed to take any action. Ms. Bhatia submitted that the menace had been increasing by the day as the population of monkeys had grown in the city. "We hope that the compliance with the directions by the respondents shall eradicate or at least minimise the problem of stray dogs, stray cattle and monkeys," the High Court had said.
