Need to break barriers on learning

NEW DELHI: Delhi Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi on Friday said there was a need to bring differently-abled children into the mainstream and raise their self-esteem.

Inaugurating a three-day international conference on "Learning to Learn with Different Abilities", Mr. Joshi emphasised the need to break down the barriers on learning in order to work with children with special needs so that they can develop into confident, productive and independent adults.

Central Board of Secondary Education Chairman Ashok Ganguly, NDMC Chairperson Sindhurshree Khullar and Sanskriti School Principal Gauri Ishwaran were among those present.

Focus on groundwater

NEW DELHI: A five-day international conference on "Groundwater for Sustainable Development: Problems, Perspectives and Challenges" opened at India International Centre here on Wednesday.

Organised jointly by the School of Environmental Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, KTH Sweden and SEARCH Foundation, the conference underlined the fact that availability of fresh water was going to become the most pressing problem in India in the coming decades.

Management convention

NEW DELHI: Delhi Management Association, a premier body devoted to dissemination of management principles and practices, will organise its two-day Golden Jubilee Convention at India Habitat Centre here from February 6.

The theme of the convention is: "India Transformed: What Next?" Ranbaxy Laboratories Chairman Tejendra Khanna will inaugurate the convention.

Photo exhibition inaugurated

NEW DELHI: A photo exhibition titled "Unbowed Stalingrad" dedicated to the anniversary of the Battle for Stalingrad has been organised at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture here jointly with the India-Russia Friendship Society.

Inaugurating the weeklong exhibition, Member of Parliament Pratibha Singh said the relationship between the two countries was unique as Russia had always stood by India in times of difficulties.

Kashmiri businessman detained

NEW DELHI: A Jammu and Kashmir-based businessman has been detained by the Special Cell of the Delhi police on suspicion of his involvement in a hawala racket. He is being interrogated to find out if the money sent to him was being diverted to terrorist organisations.
