CHENNAI: The 12th Interschool Science Expo conducted by Bala Vidya Mandir, Adyar, on the school premises last week brought out the scientific temper in young minds in schools across the city.

More than 20 schools competed in the expo, divided into two main categories — life science and physical science.

Competitions such as collage making, dumb charades and quiz, all pertaining to science, were also conducted.

The overall shield was bagged by Vidya Mandir, Mylapore.

In the physical science category, Vidya Mandir won the first prize, Bhavan's Rajaji Vidyashram the second and Pon. Vidyashram the third.

Under the life science category, Guru Shree Shanthi Vijay Jain Vidyalaya secured the first prize for its exhibit on stem cells followed by Vanavani Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Jawahar Vidyalaya.

Suraish Kumar, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, IIT-Madras, distributed the prizes to the winners.

Earlier, S.S. Nathan, principal of Bala Vidya Mandir, inaugurated the science expo.
