TAMBARAM: At the third annual two-day open house that began at the SRM Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed University) at Kattankulathur on Friday, schools students were impressed with the facilities in laboratories. Students from government and private schools asked the engineering students about on their projects. Most of them were glued to the latest Apple Macintosh computer system, recently acquired by the institute at its Hi-Tech computer centre. T.P. Ganesan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, said the open house was being organised for the third successive year, since the institute attained the deemed university status. The two-day event was organised to throw open the doors of the departments so that students and their parents could take a look at the facilities available there. Mr. Ganesan said engineering graduates from other colleges were free to visit the college during the event if they planned to do their master's there. Further, students of the institution could visit other departments, which is normally not permittedBenjamin Abraham Samuel, Head of the Department of English and Foreign Languages and chief convenor of the event, said students from 90 schools were expected to visit the college.
