MANGALORE: The 15th Dakshina Kannada District Kannada Sahitya Sammelan at Savanoor in Puttur Taluk will start on Saturday under the presidentship of senior writer and literary critic Subraya Chokkadi. Senior writer M. Chidanananda Murthy of Bangalore will inaugurate the sammelan. The sammelan will have six different "goshtis" (sessions) that include a "Kavi Gosthi" (session on poetry) which will have young and senior poets reciting poetry. Station director of AIR Mangalore Vasanth Kumar Perla will chair this session. Nine poets will take part in this session. The "Vidyarthi hani kathagoshti" will be chaired by Ganga Padekal and this session is reserved for students from different colleges in the district. The first session on sahitya will be chaired Keshavasharma from Kuvempu University, Shimoga. The session on "Janapada Goshti" (folkore) will be chaired by Chinappa Gowda. The highlight will be the session on "Rural women and empowerment" which will have papers presented by well-known women writers including Sushila Upadhyaya of Udupi, Sushila Rao of Mangalore and Chandrakala Nandavar of Mangalore. The session will be chaired by Sunitha Shetty of Mumbai. Sixteen achievers from diverse fields will be honoured on the occasion. The list includes Puttur Narasimha Nayak for music and Chidambara Baikampady for journalism.
