NEDUMBASSERY: One of the three aerobridges the Cochin International Airport bought from China at an estimated cost of around Rs.6 crores was commissioned on Friday. It has been installed at the new international arrival block. Passengers of the Indian Airlines flight, IC 575, operating in the Chennai-Kochi-Goa-Kuwait route were the first to avail of the service of the new aerobridge. Airport Director A.C.K. Nair was present on the occasion. With this, the number of aerobridges in service at the airport has gone up to three. Two aerobridges were already being operated at the airport for the international flights. Of the remaining two aerobridges, one more will be added at the international side and the other one will be allotted for serving domestic passengers. The remaining aerobridges will become operational within 10 days from the completion of the construction work for connecting the aerobridges to the terminal building, Mr. Nair said. The aerobridges bought for the Kochi airport have been so designed to serve all types of aircraft at present operating from here, except the ATR aircraft, which is relatively small. It will ensure hassle-free embarking and disembarking from the aircraft for the passengers. The passengers need not go outside for boarding, as the aerobridge will connect the aircraft and the terminal building.
