`It should be a pro-poor Government'

Staff Reporter

The coalition Government should also focus on infrastructure and not make false promises, say people

Bangalore: The installation of a new Government has evoked mixed reaction among the people. But the common man does have some expectations from it. He wants a stable Government that will work for the poor, improve infrastructure and not make false promises.

Suman B.S., who works in the High Court, hopes the new Government will work for the welfare of the State. She also hopes the Government will implement the sixth Pay Commission in the State. "I hope there will be young people in the Cabinet," she said.

The new Government should keep the middle class in mind while formulating policies, said Latha B., another High Court employee. She hoped the Government would improve infrastructure in the city.

Manjunath C.N., a farmer from Kolar, is not sure how long the Government will last. However, he believes that it will work for the welfare of the farmers. "The previous government made many promises, but did nothing," he said. Manjula N. Tejaswi, advocate, said the Government should be pro-poor. "It should first focus on providing basic amenities to the poor and regain their confidence," she said.

Though the Bharatiya Janata Party has a communal tag, that should not be reflected in governance, said A.G. Mohammed Adam, a social worker. "The Janata Dal (S), a secular party, has joined hands with the BJP only to enjoy power. I am not sure how long the Government will last," he said.

Ramesh, a fruit vendor, believes the Government will do good things. "I want the Government to think about poor people like me and check the rise in prices of essential commodities," he said. "The first thing H.D. Kumaraswamy should do is to improve infrastructure and provide basic amenities in areas under the city municipal councils," said Mohan N., a home loan officer with a bank.

He said the Government should also concentrate on completing the international airport at Devanahalli and restore the confidence of information technology companies.

K.B. Tereganahalli, a businessman from Ranebennur, does not think the Government will complete its term; an opinion that is echoed by K.M. Kalimulla Sharief, a businessman. "It is a Government formed by those who want to enjoy power."
