Man arrested for abduction-murder

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A 21-year-old man has been arrested by a joint team of the Pune police and the Crime Branch of Delhi police on charges of kidnapping a 20-year-old man from Pune and killing him in August last. The accused killed the victim after receiving a ransom of Rs. 15 lakhs from his family.

On Thursday, Sub-Inspector Naresh Sharma of the Inter-State Cell and the Pune police officers received a tip-off that Ravit Singh who was wanted in connection with the kidnapping-cum-murder of one Sagar Sahni was living in Gurgaon. Subsequently, a raid was mounted and the accused was arrested.

During interrogation, Ravit allegedly revealed that he worked in a hotel located opposite the car-accessory shop of Sagar's father.

The hotel owner's brother, Nitin, conspired with him to kidnap Sagar for ransom. On August 14, they took him out on some pretext and then kidnapped him.

They made several threat calls to Sagar's parents demanding Rs. 15 lakhs for his release.

Sagar's father succumbed to the pressure and paid the money through the hawala channel via Dubai and Mumbai.

After getting the money, the accused slit Sagar's throat and dumped his body on Surat-Nasik Highway, as he would have disclosed their identities.

While Ravit has been arrested, Nitin is still at large and is suspected to be living in Dubai.
