10 lakh visit world book fair

New Delhi: The 17th New Delhi World Book Fair, which drew to an end on Saturday, attracted as many as 10 lakh book lovers and was the biggest in terms of the number of exhibitors.

The nine-day fair with the theme `Composite culture in a multicultural society' had 1,255 Indian and 38 participants from foreign countries including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Spain, France, England and the US. ``An estimated 10 lakh book lovers visited the fair,'' said Nuzhat Hassan, Director of National Book Trust -- main organiser of the fair.

The `Youth Pavilion' set up for the first time was a prominent feature of this year's book fair.

``This successful venture helped in generating intense interest for books among the youth and saw a lot of interaction between them and prominent persons who were specially invited,'' she said.

Another important feature of the fair was a specially designed `Guest of Honour' pavilion, which showcased India's endeavour to promote its publishing and printing profile in the international market by participating in the Frankfurt Book Fair later this year.
