Retired judge's house auctioned

Kolkata: In accordance with a Supreme Court order, house of Bhagwati Prasad Banerjee, a retired judge of Calcutta High Court in Salt Lake, was on Sunday auctioned at Rs. 51 lakh. The apex Court had ordered to cancel the allotment of the plot to Mr. Banerjee and auction of the land and the house in separate bids.

The apex court, while hearing a petition of Tarak Singh in 2004, upheld the Calcutta High Court order accusing the retired judge of giving a go-ahead to the West Bengal government for distributing Salt Lake plots under the Chief Minister's quota.

He was the first beneficiary of this.

Pradip Kumar Murarka won the bidding in the auction held at the B D block Auditorium, Salt Lake.

There were 10 bidders, of whom seven were eligible, and after the bidding the house was auctioned for Rs. 30.50 lakh and the land for Rs. 20.30 lakh.

The house is located at FD 429, Salt Lake. — PTI
