Sangha demands representation for Madiga community in Cabinet

HUBLI: The Karnataka Rajya Adijambhava Sangha has called for representation of the Madiga community in the Cabinet of the coalition Government in the State.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, Hanumanthappa Malapalli, president of the sangha, and Parashuram Pujar, general secretary, said MLAs from the Madiga community were not represented in the previous Government.

The Madiga community has a population of around 75 lakhs in the State.

However, it has been deprived of opportunities in the fields of education and politics and has remained a backward community, they said.

"In the 13 districts of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region and the Mumbai-Karnataka region, only two leaders of the community, Hanumanthappa Alkod of the Janata Dal (Secular) and Govindappa Karajol of the Bharatitya Janata Party (BJP) have been elected MLAs. We urge the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister to induct them into the Cabinet," Mr. Malapalli said.

He also urged the Janata Dal (S)ecular-BJP coalition Government to introduce the internal reservation policy in the State.
