KURNOOL: DIG of Police Vinay Kumar Singh unveiled the vision for the police in the range comprising Kurnool and Kadapa districts here on Saturday. Talking to reporters, Mr. Singh said the exercise was meant for bringing the police closer to public as no crime could be prevented without the active cooperation of the people.

Also, the public were not aware of the legal system thoroughly and the problems faced by the police in discharging their duties. Once the public know this, they could not make wild allegations against the police. Mr. Singh said the police could interfere in private disputes too if the issue has potential to cause law and order problem at a later stage. For prevention of future incidents, the police need to bring two parties together and work out a mutual agreement. If the parties were not satisfied they can approach court, he said. He said reception counters would be set up at all police stations in the district and Praja Diwas on every Monday would be conducted to facilitate public to meet officers. Apart from this, a grievance cell would be set up for quick disposal of complaints. Also, pre-paid post cards would be distributed in remote areas to enable public write to the senior officers about any grievance. All officers would visit villages and make night halts in order to attend to all disputes, inquire about bad characters and review caste and communal tension in the village. SP B. Malla Reddy, Additional SP Ravinder Reddy, Deputy SPs Ammi Reddy and Venu were present.
