Jammu: A court here has sentenced a sadhu from Hardwar in Uttar Pradesh to three years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on him for possession of charas beyond the legally permissible limit. Designated TADA/POTA court Judge N.D. Wani on Friday convicted Shanker Giri of Barampuri in the temple town under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act for carrying a larger quantity of the narcotic than approved by the law. The court observed that on account of the `sadhu' being a poor man and a first offender, he deserved a `lenient view'. It said in default of the fine, Giri would have to undergo imprisonment for another six months. -- PTI
