U.P. STF to question senior Delhi officers

Notices already issued, say sources

Lucknow: Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police probing phone tapping case of Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh has issued notices to principal secretary (home) Delhi Government Narayanan Swami and Delhi Police joint commissioner, Ranjit Narayan.

The STF team led by a senior official -- camping in Ghaziabad for the probe -- issued notices to the two officers for routine investigations, official sources told UNI here.

The requisition for the same was necessitated after the STF interrogated officers of Reliance Infocomm, which was allegedly tapping Mr. Singh's phone after they received a letter from the two officers.

Since, Reliance officials told the STF that phone tapping was done on the basis of such letters, further inquiry about the validity of the letter had to be established, the sources said.

However, Mr Narayan had claimed that no such letter was written for phone tapping and the one in question was forged.

Now, as part of the investigation, it was deemed necessary these two officers were approached so as to establish if the letter was forged, STF sources said.

Rajesh Pande, SP STF said these two officials would be `asked' on their convenience as they were very senior officers.

"It is just a routine in the phone tapping case," he added.

A lot of ruckus was created when the SP leader came to know that his Reliance phone installed at his Delhi residence was tapped during November and December last year.

While the Delhi police arrested a few people in the case, the U.P. Government also ordered a probe by its crack investigating force of STF. -- UNI
