Says this will broaden vision and promote mutual understanding

PONDICHERRY: Lt. Governor M.M. Lakhera on Saturday called upon youth to participate in competitions and events. This will broaden their vision and promote mutual understanding and team spirit, he said.

Distributing medals and prizes at Rajnivas to volunteers of the National Cadet Corps of the Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Andaman units, who were here after participating in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi, he said the administration was keen to promote the Union Territory into a model pocket.

The government was on the course of getting the right type of persons with updated training programmes so that they could be absorbed in emerging sectors and newer avenues.

Mr. Lakhera distributed medals and trophies to the cadets who came up with good performances at the Republic Day camp in New Delhi.

He had special praise for the local NCC unit's naval wing (1(P) naval unit), which emerged at the top in the competitions held at the camp. He presented a cash award of Rs. 50,000 to the naval unit.

Chief Secretary C.S. Khairwal said the administration was evolving plans to make Pondicherry an alternate Singapore.

The Gross Domestic Product growth rate was 12 per cent, higher than the national seven percent. In another five years, the tourist flow, both from other States and foreign countries, would be high.

Site allotted

Commodore P.P. Singh, Deputy Director-General of NCC, said the cadets attached to the Directorate, comprising Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu and Andaman, emerged third in the competitions held at the Republic Day camp.

He lauded the cadets and officers who offered institutional training for them.
