Building violation found in 10 schools

Three-day show cause notices being issued, says Corporation

NEW DELHI: As many as 10 schools in Vasant Kunj here have been found by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to have violated the building by-laws in some form or the other and the Corporation has announced that it is now in the process of booking these unauthorised construction and issuing show cause notices to the school managements.

The Corporation has also reminded these schools that it is working in compliance of the orders of the Delhi High Court which has directed it that VIP and influential people who have made unauthorised constructions in violation of law must not be spared.

Stating that following complaints about unauthorised constructions in the public schools in the Vasant Kunj area of South West Delhi, it had carried out a survey which indeed found 10 schools to be violating the law, the MCD said some of the schools were even holding classes the basements in utter violation of the building by-laws.

At Bloom Public School in C-8 Vasant Kunj, the Corporation found that the library, music room, sports room, yoga room and music room were under the temporary shed at the rear of the main building. At Vasant Valley Public School, it said the squash court, art and craft room and workshop at first floor were unauthorised. In DAV School in Pocket B, the Corporation found the basement and stage room and the yughshala at the rear side of the main building to be unauthorised.

As for G.D. Goenka Senior School in Pocket B-10, it said the guard room, generator room, storeroom under temporary shed near left boundary wall were unauthorised along with the accountant's room and the office room at the rear side of the main building.

Then in Ryan International School, it said the meter room, guard room generator room and stores were all unauthorised. In Tender Feet at C-8, the centre open to sky had been covered with fibre sheet in an unauthorised manner and the partition in basement, plain steps, room on terrace and toilet were also found to be violating the laws.

In Dimple Education Society at C-8 too, the MCD said, the centre which was to be open to sky had been covered with a fibre sheet. Besides, the servant room, toilet, guard room, the covered rear side corner and rooms on the terrace floor were in violation of the building by-laws. The other three schools, Kangaroo Kids, Shemrock Paradise, and G.D. Goenka Junior School, also had violations pertaining to additional facility rooms.
