Police solve theft case, recover jewellery

MANGALORE: The Surathkal police on Friday have solved a theft case reported from Hosabettu village.

Rama (75) had in her complaint to police said that 140 grams of gold jewellery valued at Rs. 78,000 was stolen from her house between January 27 and February 3. She had appointed a youth to perform puja and was paying him Rs. 1,500 a month. Police, who suspected involvement of the youth, arrested him.

The accused Ganesh Bhat (22) is at present residing at Krishnapura in Udupi. Police have recovered jewellery worth Rs. 40,700 from him.

Accident

A motorcyclist was killed and the pillion rider injured when a car rammed into their vehicle near Thokkottu railway overpass junction on National Highway 17 on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Ajith (28) of Saraswathi Colony, Ullal. Ranjith, who fractured his legs, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital at Thokkottu. The Ullal police are investigating.
