BANGALORE: The admission process to postgraduate medical and dental courses in the State just got murkier. With the smooth conduct of the Postgraduate Entrance Test (PGET) by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) on January 29, all eyes are now on the PGCET to be conducted by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) on February 12. But there is a problem. COMEDK has now made it clear that candidates who write the university's test will be eligible only for government quota seats in government colleges. This implies that students with the PGCET scores cannot get a seat in any of the medical colleges attached to COMEDK. RGUHS had set the question papers for the COMEDK test. Now, the consortium says there is no need for students to take two entrance tests as the scores of its PGET are adequate for admissions. It has, in effect, closed its doors on students taking the RGUHS test. However, the university has reiterated that no decision can be taken by COMEDK until the court gives its ruling. In its Friday meeting, colleges attached to COMEDK also decided to approach the Rangavittalachar Committee to rework the fees fixed for individual colleges. The fee is too low, the members said.
