Venkaiah Naidu hits out at Left parties

Special Correspondent

BJP leader critical of Government's policies on various issues

DIG AT COMMUNISTS: BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu addressing a media conference in Tirupati on Sunday.

TIRUPATI : BJP national leader M. Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday lashed out at Left parities saying they failed to put their coalition partner Congress under check even on the issues which were very close to their heart.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu alleged that the Left parties lost control over the Congress while the latter was ignoring the former.

On India backing the IAEA's resolution referring Iran's nuclear programme to the United Nation's Security Council, the BJP leader reiterated the BJP's demand that the UPA Government must let the nation and all political parties know on what basis and under what circumstances did India have to vote against Iran at the IAEA meet.

He said BJP was conscious that no party should try to play any politics with a serious issue like the Iran's nuclear issue but insisted that UPA must convened at once an all-party meeting on the issue and try to take them into confidence on the `rationale' behind India's stance vis a vis Iran.

He also sought to downplay the recent remark of a senior RSS functionary that the BJP and Congress could forge together in the context of the West Bengal election. He sought to clarify that it was not the `official statement.'

Sarpanches' issue

The BJP leader criticised the Congress Government's decision in the State to withdraw the cheque-drawing powers of sarpanches. It was against the very vision of its party leader late Rajiv Gandhi.

TTD funds

He also opposed the CPI(M)'s demand that the TTD should spend Rs.100 crores in Chittoor district every year towards its basic civic amenities.
