KOZHIKODE: North Zone Inspector General (IG) of Police M.N. Krishnamurthy has suspended K. Radhakrishna Pillai, Circle Inspector at Kasaba police station who was arrested by the Kozhikode Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) on Friday night on charges of accepting bribe through an accomplice. Though the suspension order was issued on Sunday, it was deemed to have taken effect from Friday when the CI was arrested by Vigilance sleuths. The suspension, pending department-level inquiry, was based on a report on Mr.Pillai's arrest by the VACB, submitted by Kozhikode City Police Commissioner H.Venkatesh to the IG. Mr. Pillai was arrested by the Vigilance sleuths at a tile factory at Feroke, near here, while accepting Rs.10,000 through his agent, Kuttanparambil Sharief of Karunagapally. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police C.M. Pradeep Kumar, the accused had demanded Rs.1 lakh to hush up a case in connection with the busting of an unauthorised internet-telephone booth on Mavoor Road three months ago.
