Officials make a beeline to Deputy Chief Minister's house

  • Delegation of BJP MLAs call on him
  • Bangalore's development to get priority
  • R. Ashok may get Bangalore Development portfolio

BANGALORE: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa is sure that the Finance portfolio in the new Janata Dal (S)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition Government is his.

Declaring as much to a delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party legislators from the city who met him on Sunday, Mr. Yediyurappa assured them that within two months, the city's roads will see vast improvement, allocation of funds to speed up the process, and that would only be the beginning,

Day two at Mr. Yediyurappa's residence saw him meeting with officials from the Finance and Industries departments, both portfolios held by P.G.R. Sindhia in the erstwhile Dharam Singh Cabinet.

When the city legislators called on him to impress upon him the urgent need for improving roads and infrastructure in Bangalore, Mr. Yediyurappa said: "Since the finance portfolio will be mine, I can assure you that Bangalore's development will get priority in my agenda." Reminding them that the elections to Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Council is due by the year-end, for which the partnership with Janata Dal (S) will be forged again, Mr. Yediyurappa said addressing the city's development needs will be an opportunity for the party to demonstrate that it not only promises, but also delivers. Whether it is the Legislative Assembly or the Mahanagara Palike Council, the BJP's aim is to ensure a permanent place in the Opposition for the Congress, Mr. Yediyurappa said.

Uttarahalli MLA R. Ashok, who is tipped to get a berth in the Ministry, led the delegation.
