TUMKUR: Pavagada Town Panchayat President Anajan Kumar and Leader of the Opposition in the panchayat, Sogadu Venkatesh said here on Monday that the number of people affected by fever in the town increased to 1,000. They told presspersons that the disease was first reported 20 days ago. It was first noticed in Hale Kumbhara Beedi and later spread to other areas, including the Harijan Colony. They alleged that the Government has not responded to the situation. Only a few part-time doctors are available at the Government Hospital at Pavagada. They could not even do proper diagnosis. According to doctors, the fever cannot be categorised as dengue, malaria or typhoid. Although the fever is contagious, it is not borne out of water. The panchayat, they said, cleaned the water supply units and storage tanks. Water supplied from Nagalamadike Reservoir is not used for drinking purpose. Earlier, the two held a meeting with several leaders and representatives of non-governmental organisations. The meeting was attended by BJP Pavagada vice-president unit Shivaprakash, its secretary K.C. Chandradas, senior Congress leader G.S. Dharmapal, K.M. Prabhakar and Narayanappa from Rotary International and Srirama Gupta, president of SSK Sangha (a voluntary organisation backed by the famous Pavagada Shanidevara Temple). They offered to meet the cost of treatment.
