Ganguly in Bengal Ranji squad

KOLKATA: Sourav Ganguly, who was not considered for the ongoing one-day series against Pakistan, will turn out for Bengal in the Ranji tournament beginning at Dhanbad from Friday.

The tournament will feature Orissa, Assam, Bengal, Tripura and host Jharkhand.

The Bengal selectors, headed by chairman Pranab Roy, dropped three players from the team that played in the Ranji Trophy final against Uttar Pradesh and included Ganguly and all-rounder Sanjib Sanyal.

The dropped players are opener Arindam Das, left-arm spinner Murtaza Lodhgar and medium pacer Ashok Dinda.

Bengal will take on zonal minnow Tripura in the first match on Saturday. The tournament will end on February 19.

The squad: Deep Dasgupta (capt, wk), Sourav Ganguly, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Rohan Gavaskar, Sourashish Lahiri, Manoj Tiwari, Avishek Jhunjhunwala, Subhajit Pal, Shib Sankar Paul, Shiv Sagar Singh, Ranadeb Bose, Subhamoy Das, Kamal Hasan Mondal and Sanjib Sanyal.
