MEG & Centre posts win

BANGALORE: MEG & Centre scored a 2-0 win over AGORC in a scrappy match in the senior division football league for the George Hoover Cup here on Monday.

Trijith Dass scored both the goals for the Sappers, the first off a penalty kick in the 61st minute.

AGORC's Madan, who was later given marching orders by referee G. Suresh Kumar for a violent tackle, handled the ball inside the box and Trijit deftly converted the resultant penalty.

Trijith put the issue beyond doubt with a solo effort in the 76th minute to give MEG its third win in five matches with the other two drawn.

For AGORC, this was the fourth successive defeat after a win and a draw.

Earlier in the `A' division league, BWSSB snatched a 26th minute winner against Rail Wheel Factory with Suresh netting the winner.

In the `C' division that began at two different venues, Active Union downed Modern Boys 2-0 at Austin Town grounds, with goals through Charan and Vinod Raj.

Navratna and Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) shared four goals and two points at the National College grounds.

Gaurav and Pramod scored for Navratna, while Manjunath and Harsha netted for IISc.

Ryan, Vinoo sparkle

Spinners Ryan Ninan (107) and Vinoo Prasad (81) wielded their bats to good effect and set up Swastic Union's 206-run victory over Indiranagar Cricketers in a YSR Memorial Trophy tournament tie here on Monday.

Swastic Union 463 for 6 in 50 overs (Ryan Ninan 107, Vinoo Prasad 81, Pavan Gaargi 66, Mahesh 58, Nikhil Kashap 44) bt Indiranagar Cricketers 257 in 43.5 overs (Prashanth Shankar 46, Himmanth Singh 40); Whirlwind Cricketers 246 for 8 in 50 overs (Bharath 91, Murari 41) lost to Canara Bank 249 for 4 in 37.2 overs (G. Balaji 97, K. Sriram 64).

Prince John to lead

Prince John will lead Karnataka in the senior National handball championship to be held at Ludhiana from February 9 to 15.

Prince John (Capt.), Mebli Mathew, Lakshmada Amaru, saravana Kumar, Ranjith, Austin, Premnath, Anantham, Satyanarayana, Anil Patel, G. Babu and M.N. Manu.

Rakhshith triumphs

M.S. Rakshith bagged the under-10 singles title in the Kensri inter-school futures tennis championship here on Sunday. In the final, Rakshshith defeated Prajwal Dev 6-1,6-1.

Earlier in the semifinals, Prajwal beat Anirudh 9-1 and Rakhshith prevailed over Eliya Devan 9-7.

Kavitha impresses

Kavitha Somanchi of Reserve Bank of India finished runner-up in the senior National carom championship held at Pune from Jan. 20th to 25th. Kavitha lost to Nirmala of LIC in a thrilling final losing the deciding game by one point (24-25).

Prior to the Nationals, Kavitha won three titles in the Banks' Olympiad at Chennai last month.

Yash Mehta sparkles

Yash Mehta's unbeaten 89 helped Delhi Public School (N) defeat Delhi Public School (S) by 100 runs in a Mekal Challenge series tournament match here on Monday.

The scores: DPS (N) 227 for three in 40 overs (Yash Mehta 89 n.o.) bt DPS (S) 127 in 28 overs.
