S.R. Ashok Kumar
K. Balachander and Uday Kiran in `Poi'.
CHENNAI: Director K. Balachander is once again coming before the camera. He plays a part in Poi, produced by Prakash Raj (Duet Movies). Of course, acting is nothing new to this peerless director. He did a small role in his movie Kalki. He donned dual roles in a television serial Premi. Replying to a query about his role in the movie, K. Balachander says, "I play the `father' of the hero." He refuses to divulge further details, saying enigmatically, "Watch it on the screen." The grapevine has it that it is a very important character in the film. Prakash Raj is organising a function for the release of the movie's audiocassettes at the University Centenary auditorium on February 12. Over 100 artists who have so far been introduced by K. Balachander and those who have worked him in his movies will be on stage. Kamal Hassan, Rajnikant and Prakash Raj have signed a letter requesting all the artists to attend the function. The invitation for the movie's audio release also focussed on the director. K. Balachander says that whatever Prakash Raj does, he does it big and that he does not want to curb the actor's enthusiasm.
