Protest at Yuva Janotsava venue
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
Acrimonious scenes marred the finale of the State-level Yuva Janotsava organised by the Department of Youth and Sports here on Monday.
The Yuva Janotsava was held to select candidates for the national-level competitions to be held in Delhi.
A folk singer representing Mandya and a few of his supporters were upset that he could not bag the first prize. They rushed to the stage and tried to prevent Principal Secretary L. Shantakumari from distributing the prizes. They used abusive language against the organisers.
Sensing that the intruders were in an "inebriated" state, Commissioner for Sports and Youth Services K.C. Ramamurthy tried to convince them with reasoning and logic why the singer could not bag the prize he desired. Later, he called the police and they were removed.
