MARCHING AHEAD: K.R. Srinivasan, Director General of Police, Corps of Detectives, receiving the salute from the District Police and Karnataka State Reserve Police VI Battalion trainees, at the passing out parade in Gulbarga on Tuesday.
Gulbarga: "More women are joining the police service now than ever. It will help make the force more sensitive to gender issues," Director General of Police (Corps of Detectives and Training) K.R. Srinivasan said here on Tuesday. Speaking at the passing out parade of trainee police constables, Mr. Srinivasan said the Government had adopted a policy of steadily increasing the proportion of women personnel in the force. "The percentage of women in the force is less than 10. We hope to increase it in a time-bound manner. Of the 194 trainees passing out today, 96 are women. At nearly 50 per cent, this is a good trend," he said. He asked the constables to perform their duties in accordance with rules and bring goodwill to the State Police. As many as 55 trainees from Bellary, 41 from Shimoga, 32 from Chitradurga, 25 each from Bangalore and Madikeri and 16 Mandya received certificates from Mr. Srinivasan. Inspector General of Police S. Ramakrishna, Naganahalli Police Training Centre principal and Deputy Inspector General of Police Anand Ayachit, Superintendents of Police Ramachandra Rao, K.L. Sudhir and S. Hitendra, and Additional Superintendent of Police Ravi Nayak, were present.
