K. Narayana Kurup

KOCHI: A former Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court and former Judge of the Kerala High Court, K. Narayana Kurup, has been conferred the honorary title of Chancellor for the Indian wing of the York College of Industry and Technology (YCIT), Toronto, Canada.

This honour carries with it the ceremonial roles of conferring awards and accreditation achieved by YCIT students and representing the college at official functions.

The YCIT, in affiliation with Inter-Ed Faculty of Clinical Research (IFCR), Kochi, is offering a one-year training programme in clinical research. It is designed for doctors, pharmacists, biotechnologists and post-graduates in the health sciences, said Carlos Benzaque, YCIT Director. He said this is the first time any person will fulfil these ceremonial duties abroad.

Bret D. Snider, YCIT's president and CEO, conferred the honour while on a recent visit to India. During the presentation in Kochi, he stated: "A person of Justice Kurup's stature and prominence will greatly contribute to the trust and dignity of the role. This honour has been bestowed upon the jurist as a testament to his judicial wisdom and in-depth knowledge of medical subjects, including clinical research. He has not only authored numerous academic publications but has a proven record that reflects his profound concern for the welfare of the humanity and human rights in developing countries."

Manoj Kuleshreshtha, Indian representative of the YCIT, and Thomas Antony of the IFCR, were present along with Mr. Benzaque at the Press Club here while making the announcement.
