NCP Minister remains defiant

PANAJI: The infighting in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) State unit is set to escalate even as Agriculture Minister Micky Pacheco on Tuesday contradicted the leadership's emissary to reiterate that the differences in the State party continued.

Contradicting the statement made by Chandrakant Tripathi on Tuesday morning that there were no differences in the State unit of the party, Mr. Pacheco said there were differences in the party. Mr. Pacheco told presspersons that he was not going to work party State unit president and Deputy Chief Minister Wilfred de Souza.

Mr. Tripathi had said that there was no demand for appointing a Working President. "I do not say they should appoint me, they can appoint some senior party man," said Mr. Pacheco.

Earlier, Mr. Tripathi told presspersons there was no leadership issue in Goa unit of NCP.

After his two-day mission to bring about reconciliation between the supporters of Mr. de Souza and Mr. Pacheco, Mr. Tripathi said whatever minor differences were there in the party were settled after his intervention.
