SEOUL: India was steadily emerging as a player in the international community, South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun said at a banquet he hosted in honour of President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on Tuesday evening. Mr. Roh said India, which gave birth to one of the four civilisations in the world, was once again assuming centre stage in global affairs. Pointing to last month's deliberations in Davos, the South Korean leader quoted participants as saying that India and China were transforming the world's economy. Stating that the progress made towards a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement was a very important step in bilateral relations, Mr. Roh said trade was increasing at a steady pace. It was expected to hit $10 billion in 2008.
