Navya thanks her fans for the State award

Staff Reporter

It is a responsibility to excel in future, says the actor

ALAPPUZHA: Navya Nair who won the State award for the best actress has said that the recognition came to her at an unexpected hour.

"When I won the State award for the first time, for my acting in the film `Nandanam,' it was a dream come true, but the second award is the result of the blessings and prayers of all those who love me and I accept it with all humility," she said.

Speaking at a `Meet-the-Press' programme at Alappuzha on Tuesday, Navya said the award had rested upon her the responsibility to excel in future. She said she really enjoyed doing the roles of Saira Ali Khan and Karunya in the films `Saira' and `Kanne Madanguka' respectively for which she won the award.

Saira is a bold reporter who tries to reveal to the world the hidden truths, Navya said. She said she had great respect for people with a commanding personality. "The people whom I idolize are the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa," Navya said. "I respect them not because of my affinity towards their political ideologies but because of their charisma and commanding power," she added.

Navya said the portrayal of the character in the script was the most important thing for an actor. Good characters needed to be created for good acting, she said. Navya said she had of late acted in a few Tamil films and felt at home there also. Earlier, there was a notion that melodramatic acting was required for Tamil films but in her experience, controlled acting was the norm in Tamil films at present, Navya said.

About her forthcoming films, Navya said she planned to do a Tamil film directed by Cheran. A Malayalam film directed by K. Madhu was also on the cards.
