Amalapuram: M. Mangapati Pallam Raju, Union Minister of State for Defence, on his first visit to the town after assuming office in Union Cabinet participated in the valedictory ceremony of four-day Konaseema Utsav, which concluded on Tuesday. The Utsav has showcased the beauty and culture of this area and enthralled thousands of people from different parts of the region and other districts. Amalapuram MP Harsha Kumar presided over the meeting. Addressing mammoth gathering on the last day in Balayogi Ghat grounds here, the Mr. Pallam Raju said that he was lucky to participate in the Utsav as Union Minister and he would strive for the development of Konaseema on industrial front.
Steps for development
He said that he would take measures to develop this area as a best tourism spot as requested by his earlier speakers. He said that he came to know that on all the four days, the Utsav was celebrated in grand manner and tried its best to showcase the culture, traditions and local talent. G.V. Harsha Kumar said that he did not expect this much response from the Konaseema area and thanked one and all for the support extended by them. Dokala Murali, PCC secretary, said that hundreds of eminent personalities from this area had taken interest in developing Konaseema and the MP and his party would continue the legacy. He also recalled the services rendered by late G.M.C. Balayogi, former Lok Sabha Speaker, to develop this area.
Felicitated
The Union Minister felicitated former MPs and MLAs from Konaseema. He also felicitated people who brought laurels to this area like Konaseema Institute of Medical Sciences, Vodalarevu, Batlapalem Engineering Colleges, and Gannavaram Aqueduct. DCC president Thota Narasimham, MLAs Pamula Rajeswari, Kudipudi Chittabbai, P. Viswaroop and Chirla Jaggi Reddy participated in the meeting.
Filmi touch
Films stars Srihari and his wife Santi, comedians L.B. Sriram, Gundu Hanumantha Rao and actor, mimicry artist Siva Reddy conducted different items as a part of cultural programmes. Music Director R.P. Patnaik's musical nite was also highlight in the evening.
