HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said he would henceforth focus his attention on promoting agriculture besides seeing that the benefits of reforms reach the poor and result in the welfare of artisans.

In a chat with presspersons, Mr. Naidu said he would show as much zeal in promoting these areas in the next ten years as he had shown in giving a push to Information Technology and IT-enabled services earlier.

As part of this decision, he has accepted an invitation from an organisation in Lucknow. He would speak on these areas, sharing the platform with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav shortly.

    Benefits of reforms

He was reluctant to elaborate saying he would do so at an appropriate time. Reforms were indeed beneficial but more needs to be done to see that the poor benefit from them. All sections of people should get the benefits uniformly, to remove the perception that the rich have become richer and poor poorer.

On his meeting with Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, he said it was merely a courtesy call. There was no political significance to it, though there were leaders from other parties too.

Mr. Naidu who had spent over an hour listening to students of Osmania University who had just joined the Telugu Nadu Students Federation, said he was impressed by the way they could articulate their views.
