Fake currency racket busted

Notes, computer, scanner and printers seized


  • Four persons nabbed while waiting for a bus
  • Vices like liquor force them to take up the illegal operation

    ANANTAPUR : The district police busted a four-member gang allegedly involved in circulating fake currency notes at Kalyanadurg on Tuesday.

    Fake currency notes of Rs. 1.10 lakh, a computer, scanner and three colour printers were seized from a house from where they were operating.

    All educated youths

    Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain told newspersons here that the four arrested persons were: Maqbool Basha of Raninangar here but living in Rayadurg, K. Ramachandra of Pamidi, K. Masthanvali of Gooty and R. Parthasarathi of Chitapalli village in Putlur mandal but living in Tadipatri.

    They were all educated youths and had taken to easy earning method after they had been deceived by a similar gang. During interrogation they confessed to the crime and explained that they began the circulation of fake notes in Rayadurg six months ago and later spread it to Kalyanadurg, Guntakal, Hindupur, Anantapur, Kurnool and Nellore with Rs. 50 denomination fake currency notes.

    All the four were arrested when they were waiting for a bus in Kalyanadurg.

    They told the police that they had tried fake currency note business for easy earning as they were inured to the vices like liquor. Financial problems had forced them to sell away a printer they had bought to print fake currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 denomination, which they were planning to circulate soon. But, landed in the police net with a tip of information generated from the sale of printer.
