Congress legislator fires another salvo at Sheila

Staff Reporter

Writes to Chief Minister demanding CLP meet stating party in crisis

  • CLP should discuss demolitions, scarcity of power and water and related matters
  • `Attempt was being made to bulldoze Congress manifesto by an individual'

NEW DELHI: The crisis within the Delhi Congress seems to be aggravating with each passing day. Even as the war of words within the party has intensified, the senior Congress legislator from Ghonda, Bhisham Sharma, on Monday fired another salvo. In a letter to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, he sought convening of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting immediately to discuss the situation arising out of demolitions, scarcity of power and water and related matters.

In his letter, Mr. Bhisham Sharma stated that the current phase of ongoing demolitions had led to a very serious situation and in the eyes of the common man the Government had failed to protect the citizen's interest. "During the past two months of these demolitions, the Government has failed to act on the issue and not come out with any policy on how to deal with the emerging situation."

Coupled with this, Mr. Sharma stated that the water and power issues continue to haunt the consumers but the Government had turned a blind eye to the scenario. Consumers continue to get inflated bills, face harassment due to fast running meters and unscheduled power cuts.

On the water front, Mr. Sharma said, inflated water bills were now being served on the people upsetting their monthly budgets.

Touching upon the issue of demolitions, Mr. Sharma stated that now Lal Dora areas and villages were being targeted and the Delhi Government had forgotten its own party manifesto that had promised to extend the Lal Dora areas and also regularise all unauthorised colonies. "A sense of fear has gripped lakhs of residents of unauthorised colonies and re-settlement colonies as it is being felt that they could be the next target of the bulldozers. There is already talk that notices are being issued to residents of such colonies for evacuating their properties. This is against the policies and programmes of the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the party. I therefore urge you to convene a CLP meeting in order to introspect on all aspects of the various issues being presently faced by the people of Delhi and its elected representatives,'' he added.

Asked about the urgency for the CLP meeting, Mr. Sharma said an attempt was being made to bulldoze the Congress manifesto by an individual. In an effort to prevent any further damage to the Congress and the Government, it was important that the CLP meets and deliberates on all such important matters.
